The characters

Two voices. One question.

They are not defined by names, professions or backgrounds. They could be two sages near a river, or two friends at a tea stall. What matters is how they think.

The human mind

The Questioner

“If everything in life is already written, then why are we doing anything?”

Curious, restless and sincere, he voices the thoughts most people carry silently. Why does life feel unfair? Why doesn’t effort always lead to results? He jokes, argues like a lawyer, and insists his brain “likes slowly”. He is not weak; he is brave enough to ask.

Asks what others only thinkArgues, then listensLoves chai and samosaConfusion very loyal
  • “My brain walks, it doesn’t run.”
  • “So destiny is not forcing me. It’s just giving me scenes.”
  • “So luck is destiny and freewill shaking hands?”

The observing mind

The Guide

“Destiny is what life gives you. FreeWill is what you give back.”

Calm and clear, never preachy. He explains life with rain, umbrellas and job losses rather than jargon, draws on Indian scriptures, Osho and his own Vipassana practice, and never asks to be agreed with, only understood. He does not argue; he reveals.

Explains with everyday examplesPatient, with gentle humourPractises VipassanaNever in a rush
  • “I don’t want you to agree. I just want you to understand slowly.”
  • “Life is simple. We complicate it.”
  • “In silence, the truth becomes loud.”

Why no names?

“This is not the journey of two names. It is the journey of two minds.”

In Indian tradition a name carries energy and meaning. But sometimes the question matters more than the person asking it. You can give them any names you like, or leave them nameless, like two wandering minds meeting under a quiet sky.

Chapter 14 · The saint and the two legs

Stand up. Lift your right leg.

A seeker asked a saint, “Do I have freewill, or is everything destiny?” The saint didn’t lecture. He asked him to stand.

Try it.
